Engg Days....Part 3

Ah!!!...6th sem is one of my fav. semesters.....as it brought me face-to-face with the subject "MECHANICAL VIBRATIONS" unarguably the Toughest paper in Mechanical...and arguably one of the toughest among all braches..... Ah!!! what a subject it was..... all other subjects pale in comparison to it... I would've gladly written DME-1 nd ATD papers again 2wice over than to write this one once...... Seeing the past papers, made me sweat a great deal..... I think we were lucky to get Mr. Y.K to teach us this subject..... This was the only time in Engg. that i religeously made notes and concentrated like crazy as if i was seeing Monica Beluchi in Malena..... The other subjects like OR, Engg. Economy, Automotive Engg.,(which was again taught by Mr. Vishnu Prasad), i remember we all saw him enter our first AE class and smiles burst out in all of our faces...., are not even worth mentioning in front of Vibrations...... The Exam dates were nearing and all the lips had one prayer "Screw up all the papers but not Vibrations!!!!".... well, actually forget about a tough paper....we were not even sure about clearing an average paper..... our only hope was an Easy vibes paper so that we all could get 35..... Lots of students had taken up tutions from Mr. Swamy....a Sr. Lecturer in our coll..... including rakshat about 20-25 were goin to him.... though not a big believer in tutions, i too was satrtin having my doubts about not goin to tutions.....particularly when the tution goin crowd said that they were knocking off chapter after chapter at break-neck speed and were contantly reminding us how screwd up the subject was.....as though we needed any...me and Koppa had again joined forces, along with Harsha nd Ananth(wich gave me confidence btw) and were understandin vibrations cuz no ammount of muging would help us out....if they change position of 1 spring or joined or removed a spring...the entire solution would change..... So expecting the worst and hoping for the best we enterd the exam hall for our 6th sem exams...... Oh btw these turned out to be the toughest semester exams we wrote..... The start was ominous with a Juicy lookin but dangerous OR paper..... which all of us dutifully screwd up...next up were EE and Mechatronics.... the former being tough and latter being the wierdest of all the papers i wrote....in the end i was saved in mechatronics by close to 20 grace marks....due to wrong questions......Things were lukin up as the vibrations paper was expected to be easy as first three were tough..... all now depended on MP-3..... an average paper would mean at least an easy paper for the one which followed....but luck turned against us...(once again)....and we ended up getting one of the easiest papers we ever got...... that could only mean one thing....."STUDY OUR ASSES OF FOR VIBRATIONS"...... I spent close to 2 nights awake brushing up for 120 marks.....
I commited a mistake in the morning of vibes by switching on Aajtak...and saw my horoscope...and it did not luk good for 2day....it said "AAPKO AAPKI MEHNAT KA PHAL AAJ NAHI MILEGA, SAVDHANI BARATIYE!!!!!!" This was good enough for me to curse them until i reached coll. and happily conveyd Aajtak's regards to Harsha as both of us were Capricons....This caused him to call me certain words which are of the objectionable nature for seeing such things before coming to coll.... It was 2.00 soon and all of us enterd the exam hall keeping our fingers crossed....but it did not help....the vibrations paper was the toughest paper since DME-1, probably a touch more so than DME itself....... All of us exited the exam hall cursing the paper setter for an eternity in hell.... now obviously there was no interest to study for the last paper...AE....and as if sensing they had their fun with the students VTU decided to give an easy paper for AE (which was an elective subject). I later heard tht the univ. had screwd up Theory of Elasticity paper for some students who had taken that as elective...."May their souls rest in peace"
BTW not all was glum in 6th sem.... I had got placed in WIPRO and Arjun and Harsha in ACCENTURE......

The final year started without much of the usual 'hullagulla', partly as all were growing tierd of this Engg. and couldnt wait to get out.....and partly cuz of resigning to their fates after vibrations..... The results came and as expected lots of students had a back in Vibrations and OR.....with a couple of them even in Mechatronics.....An interesting thing to mention here was that all the students going to Swamy's tutions had flunked in Vibrations except Rakshat, who got stamp 35. Again Me, Harsha, Ananth, Arjun cleared all with Them getting 35 too (i got 49)....In 7th sem. we had boring subjects like OM,TQM, Hydraulics & pneumatics (again by Mr. Vishnu Prasad), HMT and elctives as FEM & CFD.... after a rather 'Eventfull' 3rd year...... things had settled down to a steady rhythm... The exams came and went without much 'hungama'...except or the fact that our HMT paper was postponed due to its leak the prev. day...and so was the back paper of vibrations, the next day..... so a few students had some anxious moments here and there.....

Well now 8th sem has started...7th sem results were out a long time back..... a few casualties in HMT and FEM....(I cleared all) nothing out of the ordianry.... we have 4 subjects this time, Industrial Robotics being the toughest and Indian Constitution being the wierdest..... Our Project hasnt yet begun...we are 3 in our group...Myself, Ananth and Harsha, we are workin on Petrol Engine using hydrogen and CNG as fuel..... Rakshat, Anuj and Ravi are busy with their proj. on Composites, while Arjun and Hemant are doin on ANSYS, on turbine plate ananlysis under none other than Mr. Vishnu Prasad..... 2day is 28th april 2008 and our exams are expected to start on 27th may.... well less than a month now and havnt attended that many classes to know what exactly is goin on.....
Well here i am sitting on a monday afternoon...whch is supposed to be a 'Project-doin' day....doin nothing but listning to Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog"..... and jobless.....waitin for the same nervousness to engulf me when me, Koppa, Harsha & God start our semester ending routine, and enter the Exam hall underprepared......and which may possibly be our last.....

"All I ask for when I pray,
Steady rollin woman gonna come my way.
Need a woman gonna hold my hand
And tell me no lies, make me a happy man."
